1946 - "Russia" won the Melbourne Cup ridden by Darby Munro. In most of Russia's races, he had been ridden from well back, but for this race the plan was to make the field chase him. When the race started, Russia was away with the leaders and Munro kept him there. Passing the half mile, the pair swept to the front and snatched a clear break on the field. The crowd was on its feet as Munro, chasing his third Melbourne Cup, set sail for the post. Russia crossed the line 5 lengths clear of the field. The racehorse, Russia was bred in Trangie by Mr J. G. Leeds. Russia - Sire Excitement Dam Lady March  Russia wins the Melbourne Cup by 5 lengths
